The Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston is a vital part of its community providing social, cultural, educational, and wellness opportunities to its members in a welcoming and inclusive environment. To redesign a chopped-up series of buildings and additions, the JCC enlisted Fabiano Designs to “Re-Imagine the JCC” in 2011.
The process began with a Master Plan and Facility Analysis; highlighting the many opportunities the JCC could explore by opening up and reorganizing their facility. Over the next few years, due to the financial climate, fundraising became difficult. The scope of work was adjusted to fit the organization’s immediate needs for fitness and families. The original budget was anticipated to cost between 15 and 20 million dollars. The resulting phased renovations were based on an abbreviated budget of 8 million dollars and included a fitness addition and expansion, renovated locker rooms, a resource wing for young families, as well a reorganized group fitness that could become a flexible auditorium.
